Burlington Woman Charged With Statutory Rape
The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office has charged Carla Jo Bailey, 22, of Burlington, N.C. with two felony counts of first degree sexual exploitation of a minor, two felony counts of indecent liberties, three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, one felony count of obstruction of justice, one felony count of first degree kidnapping, and two counts of resist, delay or obstruct.
According to authorities, Bailey and her fiancé, Derrick Murphy, 30, participated in a 2015 statutory rape. Murphy was charged and arrested in August. Although Bailey was not initially charged, further investigation led detectives to suspect Bailey’s involvement was especially criminal in nature. Bailey is being charged separately from her co-defendant based on the allegations.
Bailey is being held under a $250,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on January 23, 2017.
