Air Conditioning Units Stolen From Johnston County Church, Daycare
Due to separate incidents that involved air conditioners being stolen, a church and daycare center in Johnston County has endured this week’s sweltering conditions with no air conditioning. According to WRAL News, two air conditioning units were taken from Mount Pleasant Advent Christian Church.
Lynette Hobbs or Mount Pleasant Advent Christian Church spoke with WRAL News and said “It’s a bad day when somebody steals from the church.”Another target less than ten minutes away, the Childcare Network was also hit however officials said four air conditioning units were stolen from the daycare.
Donna Luper, assistant director for Childcare Network said “It’s hot; why would someone do this at a childcare center? We keep children from six weeks to 12-years-old.”
Portable air conditioning units were immediately brought to the daycare to combat the heat, and children were moved to a different part of the building that still had air conditioning. A spokesperson with the Childcare Network said new air conditioning should be installed by next week, but repairs at the church will take longer. According to authorities both incidents remain under investigation.
